Scriptwriting (Virtual)
Monday | 5:00–7:00 PM
Bring your stories to life with award-winning writer and producer Johanna Lack. Students will learn screenplay formatting, story structure, dialogue, character development, editing techniques, and the creative process from concept to completed script. Through guided writing exercises, peer workshops, and professional feedback, participants will build portfolio-ready work for film, theater, TV, and digital media; Explore writing for documentaries, public service announcements, corporate media, and more; And will be provided with the opportunity to have their promotional script selected for production on JDS Creative Academy's social media platforms. No Experience Necessary
Filmmaking
Thursday | 5:00–7:30 PM
Join award-winning Film Maker, Director and Actor Pryde Pierce for an immersive filmmaking experience covering the stages of film production, from script to screen. Students gain hands-on experience in directing, cinematography, screenwriting, editing, sound design, production planning, and collaboration as they create original projects using professional-grade equipment. The semester concludes with a public screening of student work, providing valuable portfolio content for aspiring filmmakers. No Experience Necessary
Backstage Production
Wednesday | 4:30–6:30 PM
Ever wondered what happens behind the curtain? Led by JDS Creative Academy Creative Artistic Director Katie McColm, this interactive course introduces students to set design and creation, lighting design, costume design, prop making, and stage management. Participants work together on a live theatrical production while developing teamwork, technical skills, and confidence in a creative, collaborative environment. No Experience Necessary
Musical Theater
Wednesday | 5:00–7:30 PM
Under the direction of Scott Strand, Master Acting Coach, theater director, and Co-Founder of JDS Creative Academy, students develop singing, acting, movement, and stage performance skills while preparing for a full production in the Studio’s Winter Showcase. The Fall/Winter 2026 play will be Fiddler on the Roof! The class emphasizes collaboration, confidence, and artistic expression while introducing students to the fundamentals of musical theater performance. No Experience Necessary. Everyone gets a part.
Year-Round Professional Acting with JDS Acting Studio: Develop your craft with acting classes available throughout the year. No Experience Necessary. The class is month to month to month. 1-1 private coaching is available.
Youth & Teens: Tuesdays | 5:00–7:00 PM
Adults: Thursdays | 7:00–9:00 PM
Led by Master Acting Coach & Director Scott Strand, students build confidence, communication skills, stage presence, improvisation techniques, and professional acting fundamentals through Scene work and monologues. Scott uses his Method, The Truth In Acting, laid out in his and Diane Strand’s Best Selling Book ShowBusiness: Breaking into the Industry as an Actor. This program can lead to Industry Showcases to get an agent and/or manager. This class focuses on the Craft of Acting.
