Complementing the museum’s current exhibition, Helen and Newton Harrison: California Work, Raymond’s fiction similarly focuses on environmental awareness. The Harrisons, among the earliest and most notable ecological artists, decided to take on only projects that benefited the ecosystem. Likewise, Raymond’s fiction highlights fragile ecosystems, endangered species, and the real-life conservation work taking place around the world.

Floreana (Little A, December 1, 2024)  intertwines the journeys of two women, a century apart, bound by dark secrets, the want of escape, and the lengths to which they’ll go to find their place in the world. Inspired by a real-life mystery on Floreana in the 1930s, in which two settlers disappeared and another died a mysterious death, as well as penguin conservation work taking place today,  Raymond’s novel imagines what may have happened a century ago when a penguin researcher on Floreana in 2020 finds the hidden, secret diary of one of the settlers.

After the presentation, attendees are welcome to enjoy wine, beer, and light hors d’oeuvres at the reception, from approximately 5 to 6 p.m.
